merging PDF files in linux

Ideas:

Option-1:
gs -dBATCH -dNOPAUSE -q -sDEVICE=pdfwrite -sOutputFile=finished.pdf file1.pdf file2.pdf

Option-2:
pdftk 1.pdf 2.pdf 3.pdf cat output 123.pdf

Option-3:
joinpdf myFile.pdf file1.pdf file2.pdf ...

Option-4:
pdfmeld file1.pdf,file2.pdf,... result.pdf [options]

Disable "kwallet" in KDE4

Disabling annoying kwallet in KDE4:

System Settings >> Choose Advance
Then choose kwallet and uncheck "Enable kwallet system" and also in access control uncheck "prompt kwallet"
Done!

KDE4: Retrieve / Bring back kde desktop panel settings

2. kill plasma
3. ALT + F2
4. Run Konsole
5. $konqueror /home/moon
6. Show hidden files
7. Delete .kde and .kde4 folder
8. $plasma

Done! God I hate KDE4!

KPPP GPRS/EDGE modem problem fixed in FC9

Its been a nightmare, being able to pair and connect but not being
able to browse! Spent about a day to find out the following silly
problem!

kppp has changed a bit in FC9 -
kppp fetches and stores DNS nameservers in /var/run/ppp/resolv.conf
and browsers look for DNS entries in /etc/resolv.conf

Solution:
1. pair
2. dial and connect
3.
# cat /var/run/ppp/resolv.conf
nameserver 202.22.192.1
nameserver 202.22.192.2
# ln -s /var/run/ppp/resolv.conf /etc/ppp/resolv.conf
# cat /var/run/ppp/resolv.conf > /etc/resolv.conf

Note: This is a temporary fix, cause as soon as the name server is
changed, you have to do the above two lines again. Anyway, gets me
going! So for now just stoked!

Althought qtella has huge popularity, I never had luck with with in fc4, fc6 or either fc8. So NOT gonna try again.

Web Development in Linux!

Web dev in linux is just a pleasure for expert developers. I guess experts could just grab any editor of choice like kedit, kate and start coding. However for learners... ? Although I'm not a beginner, I intended to find a nice web dev suit / editor for one of my web dev project. Tried few of quite often annotated in the web -

1. Bluefish - No WYSWING, not pretty interface
2. Komposer - Good WYSWING, complete package, not pretty interface!
3. NVU - failed to install, tried rpm and tar files. wont just work in fc8
4. Quanta - no WYSWING, not user freindly

So planning to get back to my good old Dreamweaver! Hopefully I can run it through wine!

I'm amazed how opera improved over the years.
Not an opera fan but this version really rocks so far!

IPV6 disable and Konqueror speed improvement

There's a lot claim in the net that,
Konqueror by default tries IPV6 first then IPV4. Save time by disabling it.
With wireless connection, only works the following -
/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist
add the following line
blacklist ipv6

Also including "alias ipv6 off" in modprobe.conf and
#/sbin/chkconfig ip6tables off

improves speed!

My findings -
It didn't improve my speed at all, rather it made few web sites having problems!
So I would rather not stick with it.

my powertop tweaks made changes in rc.local -

no need if laptop-mode-tools active -
echo 1500 > /proc/sys/vm/dirty_writeback_centisecs
cause laptop-mode-tools set higher value than this.

echo 1 > /sys/module/snd_ac97_codec/parameters/power_save

Suggestion: Enable USB autosuspend by pressing the U key or adding
usbcore.autosuspend=1 to the kernel command line in the grub config

setting up LBP1210 in Redhat FC8

Had a nightmare in getting my canon LBP1210 laser printer work with
cups in Fedora Core 8 -

Download the printer driver in following site-
http://software.canon-europe.com/products/0000525.asp

When using printer driver, Please check out followings -

1) SELinux mode

If SELinux is set to Enforce, Please try SELinux set to Permissive.
If you'ld like to use SELinux in Enforce mode, Please make the policy
package and install it.
There is the method of making a policy package in README-capt-1.6xE.txt.
(/usr/share/doc/cndrvcups-capt-1.60/README-capt-1.6xE.txt)

2) Register the printer entry

If the HAL daemon runs on Fedora Core, and if the printer entry is made
automaticaly, please register the printer entry again using the
following method.

(Please power on the printer and the USB cable connect to the PC.)

# /etc/init.d/ccpd stop

# /usr/sbin/lpadmin -x LASER_SHOT_LBP-1210
[the above line is not needed. Without that worked fine, but after
installing driver rpm just reboot the PC, also
#cngplp
to setup page size and save changes. thats all I did pretty much, I
have tried with changing toner density as well to save ink, that
worked too.]

# /usr/sbin/lpadmin -p LBP1210 -m CNCUPSLBP1210CAPTK.ppd -v
ccp:/var/ccpd/fifo0 -E
# /usr/sbin/ccpdadmin -p LBP1210 -o /dev/usb/lp0

# /etc/init.d/ccpd start

That should work!

Troubleshoots- cups doesnt start ccpd -
So heres the solution -
start cups and then start ccpd manually -
/etc/init.d/cups start
Try printing a doc - (ctrl+p)
/etc/init.d/ccpd start

Bingo works! I will suffice myself with this, when get time, will fix
cups start ccpd as well. For now it works for me.
